Preparing Ph.D. Students for a Wide Array of Careers in Science
The University of Maryland, Baltimore has always been at the forefront of preparing graduate students for careers in science that extend beyond the traditional "path of academia". The Graduate Program in Life Sciences continues this tradition with new initiatives to ensure that our graduate students are highly prepared for and knowledgeable about their post-graduate career opportunities. The Career Opportunities in Science Seminar Series is open to all UMB graduate students, post-docs and faculty. The schedule of speakers is always diverse in the types of careers represented. Past speakers have relayed their personal experiences in biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical industries, scientific patent, legal council, venture capitalism, government agencies, start-up companies and more.
Additionally, in conjuction with the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, we offer other workshops including: How to write an NRSA/ individual grant, How to give a scientific talk and utilize PowerPoint effectively, creating and maintaining a faculty style webpage/ e-CV and more.
